Daily Rituals, Mindful Movement: The New Vinyasa Series in Rugby

Explore how small rituals on the mat can transform your body and mind.

As we move through the changing seasons, I’ve found myself thinking about the small things that give shape to our days – the habits and moments that quietly anchor us. The first sip of tea in the morning. Rolling out the yoga mat. Taking a deep breath before speaking. These are all rituals – simple, repeated actions that create steadiness amidst life’s swirl.

That’s what inspired my latest vinyasa series: Rituals.

In yoga, ritual isn’t something grand or ceremonial. It’s what we return to again and again – breath, movement, awareness. Each time we step onto the mat, we practise arriving, connecting, and moving with intention. I wanted to dedicate a few weeks to exploring how those small acts of attention can transform both our practice and our everyday lives.

This series also has a physical focus: active glutes and safe backbends. You might wonder how that connects to rituals. For me, it’s about the ritual of balance: strength and softness, effort and ease. When we activate the glutes, we create stability through the pelvis and lower back, giving the spine freedom to lift and open safely. It’s the difference between forcing a shape and growing into it with support.

Backbends are often described as heart-openers (and they are) but they also require grounding and intention. Without the ritual of preparation, they can feel exposed or unstable. By engaging the glutes and building awareness through repetition, we cultivate a foundation of strength that allows us to express vulnerability safely.

So, over the next few weeks, we’ll explore the rituals of movement and mindfulness in our yoga classes in Rugby: setting up, activating, opening, releasing. Each class will be an opportunity to reconnect with what supports us, both physically and emotionally.

Because in the end, yoga itself is a ritual: a practice of showing up, noticing how we feel, and letting the practice meet us there.

Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or new to yoga, this series will guide you through mindful flows that encourage your body to move with strength and ease. Expect to engage your glutes, protect your back, and discover how ritualised movement can become a form of self-care.

I’m a British Wheel of Yoga qualified teacher, bringing ancient wisdom into a modern, accessible vibe. My aim is to help you move mindfully, build strength, and feel more connected in your practice.
