Deep Stretch Yin Yoga in Rugby: Autumn Equinox

Every month, I lead a Deep Stretch Yin class at the Barn, in Houlton. Yin yoga focuses on increasing flexibility and mobility through gentle, sustained stretching of the body’s deep connective tissues. We move through a series of floor-based postures designed to release tension and open up tight areas of the body. These classes are suitable for all levels, including complete beginners.

Curious to know more? Thought I’d share a little bit about last night’s class to give you a bit of an insight…..

It was that time of year again – the autumn equinox, a moment of balance when day and night stand in perfect harmony. And what better place to embrace this season of transition than at The Barn in Houlton?

A Balanced Beginning

We began our practice by acknowledging the theme of balance, a central concept of the equinox. Day and night, light and dark – it was a beautiful metaphor for our Deep Stretch Yin yoga journey.

The Beauty of Letting Go

Outside, the falling leaves served as a reminder of nature’s graceful release. In the practice, I encouraged students to do the same – to let go, just as the trees were shedding their leaves in preparation for winter. With each breath, tension and stress were released, creating space for inner peace. The room was filled with the soothing aroma of Neal’s Yard diffused essential oils, enhancing our sensory experience.

Finding Equilibrium

The Deep Stretch Yin yoga class flowed through a series of low-to-the-ground postures, inviting students to explore the delicate balance between effort and surrender. Just as the equinox embodies equilibrium, I aimed to cultivate it in even the most challenging long holds. It was a reminder of both physical and mental balance.

Reflecting on Renewal

During moments of stillness, students were invited to reflect on what they were ready to release from their lives. The equinox served as a backdrop for profound self-discovery and renewal. It was a reminder that just as nature transforms, so too can we.

Gratitude and Beyond

As the class closed, a sense of gratitude filled the room. Gratitude not only for the practice but also for the opportunity to connect with the beauty of the autumn equinox. I invited everyone to carry this newfound balance and inner peace with them beyond the studio, allowing the wisdom of the equinox to guide their lives during this season of change.
