If you’ve spotted Lifted on my timetable but wondered what we actually do for two and a half hours, this is for you.
Perhaps you’re wondering whether it means two and a half hours of continuous yoga, whether you’ll be able to keep up, or whether you’ll manage to switch off for that long.
The short answer is that you won’t be moving for the whole session. Lifted Reset gradually takes you from unhurried movement into stillness, with time for your body and mind to settle at each stage.
My next Lifted afternoon is on Saturday 26 September at The Barn in Houlton. There is another chance to join me on Saturday 19 December.
So, what happens during Lifted?
Lifted has been created for those times when an hour of yoga doesn’t feel quite enough, but a full retreat day isn’t realistic. It isn’t a longer or harder version of a normal class. The extra time allows us to slow the pace and move through several different types of practice without rushing from one to the next.
We begin by moving and breathing.
The opening part of the session gives you time to arrive and notice how your body feels that day. We’ll use slow, easy movement and begin easing out some of the tension that can build up through sitting, driving, working, exercising and everyday life.
We then move into Yin and myofascial release.
Yin uses longer-held, floor-based poses, with support from props and different options to help you find a useful level of stretch. Myofascial release adds more targeted work for areas that feel particularly tight or restricted.
There is no need to push or reach the deepest version of a pose. The aim is to find something your body can stay with, then give it time.
The final part is all about rest.
We’ll soften into restorative yoga before settling down for a long Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra is a guided rest practice, usually experienced lying down and made as comfortable as possible with your blanket and props.
You don’t need to be good at meditation or able to empty your mind. You simply listen to my voice, follow the guidance when it feels helpful and allow yourself to rest.
Essential oils are diffused during the afternoon, and we finish with a small sweet treat before everyone heads home.
More than a class, without taking up your whole day
One of the reasons I created Lifted was to offer something between a weekly class and a full retreat.
A regular class gives you an important pause in the week, but sometimes it takes a little longer to stop thinking about what you have just left behind or what needs doing next. With two and a half hours, there is time to move, work with tension and then properly rest.
Yet the session still fits into one afternoon. You don’t need to travel far, organise a whole day away or have lots of yoga experience to take part.
As one student said after a previous Lifted session:
“The perfect end to a super busy week. I slept like a dream.”

September or December?
The September Lifted Reset comes just as summer gives way to autumn and routines begin filling up again. The longer format gives you space to ease out some of the tension that has gathered and move into the new season feeling steadier.
The December Lifted Reset falls on the final Saturday before Christmas. It is a calm afternoon of movement and deep rest before the final run-up, where nothing is required of you beyond getting comfortable and following the practice.
Both sessions follow the same Lifted format of slow yoga, Yin, myofascial release, restorative yoga and Yoga Nidra.
Do I need yoga experience?
No. You’ll be guided throughout and offered options so you can adapt the practice to suit your body.
Lifted could be a good fit if your body feels tight or tired, you have been finding it difficult to switch off, or you simply want a longer and more restful experience than a weekly class can offer.
You are also very welcome to come on your own.
